Here we go with the latest
newsletter, One per month. I
think we have proved that beyond
a shadow of doubt, see previous
issues for proof of that. Always
interesting.

Joke of the Month -
Actually more
like humor, but I like this one.
It is how I feel about alot of
the new technology, I keep my
schedule in my ever present date
book. There is no technology
that is faster at accessing a
date and entering an event. I
can whip out my book, go to a
date, enter an event and return
the book to my pocket in less
than 10 seconds. I also save all
my old datebooks, it is fun to
read back through the years and
see how busy I was and what I
did with my time. It works for
me, but does not have a good
data backup function.
Announcing
the new Built-in Orderly
Organized Knowledge device,
otherwise known as the BOOK.
It's a revolutionary
breakthrough in technology: no
wires, no electric circuits, no
batteries, nothing to be
connected or switched on. It's
so easy to use even a child can
operate it. Just lift its cover.
Compact and portable, it can be
used anywhere -- even sitting in
an armchair by the fire -- yet
it is powerful enough to hold as
much information as a CD-ROM
disk. Here's how it works: each
BOOK is constructed of
sequentially numbered sheets of
paper (recyclable), each capable
of holding thousands of bits of
information. These pages are
locked together with a
custom-fit device called a
binder which keeps the sheets in
their correct sequence. By using
both sides of each sheet,
manufacturers are able to cut
costs in half. Each sheet is
scanned optically, registering
information directly into your
brain. A flick of the finger
takes you to the next sheet. The
BOOK may be taken up at any time
and used by merely opening it.
The "Browse" feature allows you
to move instantly to any sheet,
and move forward or backward as
you wish. Most come with an
"index" feature, which pinpoints
the exact location of any
selected information for instant
retrieval. An optional "BOOKmark"
accessory allows you to open the
BOOK to the exact place you left
it in a previous session -- even
if the BOOK has been closed.
BOOKmarks fit universal design
standards; thus a single
BOOKmark can be used in BOOKs by
various manufacturers. Portable,
durable and affordable, the BOOK
is the entertainment wave of the
future, and many new titles are
expected soon, due to the surge
in popularity of its programming
tool, the Portable Erasable-Nib
Cryptic Intercommunication
Language Stylus.....

Month - This site the
best collection of optical
illusions I have ever seen. It
is amazing how the Brain can be
tricked into seeing (or not
seeing) what is there.

I hope you
all enjoy the Optical illusions.
If you are anything like me, you
will wish you took some
dramamine before spending too
much time checking out the
illusions. This month I will
share some of our capabilities
and accomplishments from the
latest month. |

Martinek Manufacturing Gets a Facelift
|
|
|
After 5 years the Headquarters needed a little
sprucing up. Charlie and Gang repainted the
entire 40,000 square foot building and changed
the front from Green to Red. Be sure to be aware
of this so you don't miss our building when you
drop by. |

Clever Enclosure |
|
|
Who says Precision Sheetmetal cant be cute. This
clever enclosure is cute as a button. The two
halves lock together and snap shut by using
dimples and detents, no hardware or tooling
required for the assembler. Martinek
Manufacturing designed and fabricated the custom
tooling required to create the special features.
The engineers really did a great job on this
one. The material is .036 preplated cold rolled
steel so there is no additional finishing
required. 1000 sets were fabricated in 1 week.

A Brief History of Metal |
|
|
Process Metallurgy is one of
the oldest applied sciences. Its history can be
traced back to 6000 BC. Admittedly, its form at
that time was rudimentary, but, to gain a
perspective in Process Metallurgy, it is
worthwhile to spend a little time studying the
initiation of mankind's association with metals.
Currently there are 86 known metals. Before the
19th century only 24 of these metals had been
discovered and, of these 24 metals, 12 were
discovered in the 18th century. Therefore, from
the discovery of the first metals - gold and
copper until the end of the 17th century, some
7700 years, only 12 metals were known. Four of
these metals, arsenic, antimony , zinc and
bismuth , were discovered in the thirteenth and
fourteenth centuries, while platinum was
discovered in the 16th century.
Aluminum was first produced
by Christian Oersted in 1825. However it was not
until 20 years later that significant quantities
were produced. Wohler fused anhydrous aluminum
chloride with potassium to set free aluminum.
Later Ste Claire Deville in 1854 put together a
production process using sodium instead of
potassium. |
