Joke of the Month

How do you describe a dyslexic, agnostic insomniac? Answer is below

Link of the Month - I spend hours here, The hyperlinks will take you on an endless journey.

Things are hopping at Martinek Manufacturing. The last newsletter did a great job of letting our customers learn more about our wide range of services. Many of our customers thought of us as only a Precision Machining Shop, others thought of us as Precision Sheetmetal only. Over the years we have quietly built a facility fully capable of both, plus Precision Welding, Silkscreening, and Turnkey assembly of your product.

As promised last month. More of the story of our largest project to date. After 14 months of construction we completed the Paradiso. A project unlike any other we have ever tackled. It is a 40 ton, all aluminum, Catamaran. 90 feet long and 35 feet wide. It was launched May 14th 2004. All design and construction was painstakingly overseen by my good friend, soon to be best selling author, and fellow partner in adventure, David Vann. For the amazing story of Davids prior boat, the "Bird of Paradise", its painful creation and tragic ending, be sure to get "A mile down - The true story of a disastrous career at sea". the title gives away the ending, but once you start reading, you can't put it down. It will be in bookstores in May, or can be preordered from Amazon.com. Here is the link to Davids amazing saga. Enjoy!!

Our Smallest Part Ever
Tiny Parts
For tiny parts this one takes the cake. We were requested to find a way to make an 11 micron hole in these tiny stainless steel disks. Click on the picture to learn more about how small a micron is. This dot (.) for example is about 615 microns wide. While this was our smallest accomplishment, it was one of our greatest challenges. It took a while to figure out, but with the proper combination of material preparation and a finely tuned laser, we are now able to accurately produce hundreds of these little buggers.

Our Largest Project
Paradiso Sailing in the BVI
On the opposite end of the spectrum is the Paradiso. She is 27,432,000 microns long. The largest challenge ever tackled by Martinek Manufacturing. In 14 months we turned 80,000 pounds of Aluminum, Wood and Fabric into a Luxury Yacht. Click on the Picture to see one of the websites currently advertising charters in the British Virgin Islands. Click Here to view the Online Photo Album of the construction and delivery cruise.

The photo shows the Paradiso under sail in the caribbean. A great day in this amazing project. After completing the boat in a warehouse at the Port of Stockton and using 2 huge cranes to launch her, our sailing adventure began. It took 42 once in a lifetime days to make it to the British Virgin Islands. Here is a link to the online photo album of the construction and sailing adventure. Our route took us to Cabo San Lucas, Aculpulco, Costa Rica, Through the Panama Canal, Cartegena Columbia, Aruba, Puerto Rico and to our final Destination St Thomas US Virgin Islands. The Paradiso is currently the largest Sailing Catamaran in the British Virgin Islands Charter Fleet.

Thanks again for your time, next month I will attempt to have an even better joke, as well as the latest news from Martinek Manufacturing. In May I will be showing you some of our most interesting equipment. I think you will actually find it more interesting than it sounds. The Machinery we use today is drastically different than what we used even a short 10 years ago. It is light years away from what I used when starting in Sheetmetal a frightening 30 years ago.

Sincerely,
